Your first three discs.
You don't need a full bag. Almost every new player buys discs that are too fast, then wonders why nothing flies straight. Start slow — you'll learn faster and it costs less.
One putter
Slow, blunt, and forgiving. Use it for putting and for short throws — it teaches a clean release better than any driver will.
One midrange
Your workhorse. A neutral midrange flies straight when thrown flat, which makes it the honest mirror for what your form is really doing.
One fairway driver
Speed 9 or under. Enough distance to be fun, slow enough to reward good technique instead of raw arm speed.
Throw smooth, flat, and repeatable.
Distance is a byproduct of a clean release, not a thing you chase directly. Players who learn control first get their distance later and keep it. Players who chase distance first spend years unlearning habits.
Three motions, in the order worth learning them.
Backhand
Grip, reachback, balance, clean release, follow-through. The throw most players build their game on. Keep your weight moving forward and let the disc come out flat — the power comes from timing, not muscle.
Forehand
Clean wrist action and angle control. The most common forehand problem is wobble, and wobble eats glide — Flight Lab will show it to you on the very next throw.
Putting
Routine, aim point, pace, and pressure. The cheapest strokes in disc golf are the ones you stop giving away inside the circle. This is where indoor reps pay off fastest.
Six numbers, in plain English.
Flight Lab measures every throw. You don't need all six at once — pick the one that explains your current miss and ignore the rest until it's fixed.
Speed
How fast the disc leaves your hand, in mph. The foundation of distance — and the number most players already have enough of.
Spin
Rotation in rpm. Spin is what keeps a flight stable. Plenty of players have far more speed than spin, and it shows up as discs turning over.
Nose angle
Whether the nose points up or down at release. The silent distance killer — nose up and the disc climbs, stalls, and drops short.
Launch angle
How high the disc launches relative to the ground. Pairs with speed to set the flight window you're actually working with.
Hyzer angle
The tilt of the disc at release — hyzer, flat, or anhyzer. Usually the gap between what you think you threw and what you threw.
Wobble
Off-axis torque — the flutter that eats glide and turns good lines into short ones. Easy to feel once you've seen it measured.
